Petition for a true and traditional Brunello di Montalcino

Sunday 25 May

The “Enoclub of Siena”, a group of people strongly passionate about the Brunello wine, launched an online petition addressed to the “Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino”.

The petition says:

As a group of people passionate about wine, we ask respect for the tradition of the Sangiovese grosso grapes cultivated in Montalcino.

The modern agriculture, with massive use and abuse of chemicals, risks to impoverish the land while depriving it of its natural component, hence making it unable to survive without the continuous phleboclysis of chemicals.

It is time to promote with greater fortitude the guardianship of the biological cultivation according to natural criteria.

We ask respect for the traditional production cycle in the cellar. Stop using non-autochthonous grapes, stop using selected leavens, stop using pieces of wood to mature the wine and stop to all those practices that can undermine the naturalness and typicality of the Brunello di Montalcino.

We urgently request the authority in charge to put severe controls in place and hope that the Consortium of Brunello will supervise the respect of the essentials of the tradition.

A distorted wine barbarizes the taste of less mature consumers and alters the trust between a considerate consumer and the wine producer. This trust is the basis for a longstanding commercial, human and friendship relationship with the producers of one of the greatest Tuscan wines in Italy and in the world: our beloved Brunello.
